The Roof Replacement Timeline: What You Can Expect

When you hire roofing contractors to replace your roof, it’s likely they’ll inform you that the project could take as long as a few days or a few weeks. With that in mind, it’s best that you expect what will occur before, during and after the roof replacement project. That way, you can be prepared for the sudden change of pace in your everyday routine.

In this post, BFARR Contracting discusses the roof replacement timeline and what you can expect during this period.

A Week Before The Project

In the days leading up to your roof replacement project, you can expect your contractor to pay you a visit. The sole purpose of this visit is to deliver a dumpster to your home so they can easily collect any waste from the old roof. In some cases, a second dumpster may even be delivered for shingle recycling. The delivery of your new shingles will also occur sometime during these few days.

Installation Day

Installing your new roof can take a few days. After all, it’s more laborious compared to roof repair storm damage work. With that in mind, if you happen to have pets, you might want to put them in their own room to keep them away from the contractors. Take the appropriate measures in protecting your landscaping by putting away the decorative items and cover your flowers or shrubbery. Discuss any special requests with the person in charge before the job actually commences as well so that you and the contractors won’t be in each other’s ways.

The Final Day

During this period, your contractor will do a final walk-through with you to make sure they did everything you agreed upon. They’ll also do a sweep of your yard for any other debris or loose nails, usually with a metal detector and a magnet.

After The Roof Has Been Installed

Once the roof has been installed, the dumpster will be picked up a few days later and a representative from the contractor will come to your home to do a general review and collect the final payment for the work.
